Impacts of COVID-19 Sanitary Cues on Hedonic Appreciation of Foods.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to several lifestyle changes, including eating behavior. Herein, we aimed to evaluate how pandemic-related sanitary cues presented in food videos impact food appraisal and desire to eat, and their priming after-effects on subsequent food pictures presented without such cues. In two online sessions, separated by 4 to 7 days, participants watched either a Non-Pandemic or a Pandemic video of a woman eating, the latter containing sanitary elements adopted during the pandemic. The order of the videos was counterbalanced across participants over the two experimental sessions. Videos were followed by images of food from different categories. After observing both videos and each picture, participants were instructed to evaluate the visual aspect, expected smell and flavor, and rate their desire to eat. Our study demonstrated (1) higher hedonic responses to the Non-Pandemic compared to the Pandemic video, (2) a priming effect showing higher appreciation for sweet foods after the Non-Pandemic compared to the Pandemic video, (3) that food exposure gradually increases one's desire to eat, but such effects are impacted by pandemic sanitary cues, and (4) greater hedonic responses are given for sweet and high-calorie foods compared to salty and low-calorie ones, irrespective of pandemic priming. Finally, depression and anxiety symptoms were associated with lower smell evaluations only in the Pandemic condition.

Adaptação transcultural de instrumentos para idosos no Brasil: revisão integrativa da literatura / Cross-cultural adaptation of instruments for elderly in Brazil: integrative literature review

A adaptação transcultural de instrumentos objetiva promover o intercâmbio cultural de instrumentos e/ou métodos de uma realidade cultural para outra, buscando seguir algumas severidades metodológicas, garantindo que os aspectos de mensuração do instrumento sejam fidedignos e não distorcidos para realidade sociocultural a que se destina a adaptação. Este estudo pretendeu caracterizar os instrumentos oriundos de estudos que realizaram uma adaptação transcultural para a população idosa no contexto brasileiro. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa de literatura. Realizou-se uma busca de artigos nas bases de dados ISI Web of Science, LILACS e SciELO, durante o período de julho a agosto de 2013, com corte temporal de janeiro de 2006 a agosto de 2013, utilizando conjuntamente os termos ‘adaptação transcultural’ e ‘idoso’, no idioma inglês. Ao todo, 17 artigos foram utilizados como objeto desta revisão, representando um total de 26,9% do achado inicial, que foram apresentados em três categorias temáticas, a saber: a) artigos referentes a adaptação de instrumentos que fazem a avaliação de aspectos cognitivos; b)que investigam aspectos da funcionalidade (capacidade funcional e autonomia) e desempenho em atividades motoras/físicas; e c) que investigavam aspectos psicossociais do sujeito idoso. A revisão integrativa apresentou, brevemente, os instrumentos existentes que foram ou têm sido submetidos ao procedimento de adaptação transcultural. Salienta-se que, apesar de recentemente divulgada no contexto do nosso país, a adaptação transcultural surge como uma possibilidade de promover o intercâmbio de instrumentos e/ou métodos de uma realidade cultural para outra. The cross-cultural adaptation of instruments aims to promote cultural exchange of instruments and/or methods of cultural reality to another, seeking to follow some methodological severities ensuring that the measurement aspects of the instrument are reliable and undistorted to the sociocultural reality which is designed to adapt. This study sought to characterize the instruments arising from studies performed a cross-cultural adaptation for the elderly population in the Brazilian context. This is an integrative literature review. We conducted a search for articles in the databases ISI Web of Science, LILACS and SciELO, during the period July-August 2013 with court time from January 2006 to August 2013 using the keywords ‘cross-cultural adaptation’ and ‘elderly’ in English. In all, the object of this review it was a total of 17 articles, representing a total of 26.9% of the initial findings, which were presented on three theme categories, namely: a) articles regarding the adaptation of instruments that make the evaluation of cognitive aspects b) investigating aspects of functionality (functional capacity and autonomy) and performance in motor/physical activities, and c) investigating psychosocial aspects in the elderly person. The integrative review presented briefly the existing instruments that have been or have been subject to cross-cultural adaptation process. It is noted that although recently disclosed in the context of our country the cultural adaptation emerges as a chance to promote the exchange of instruments and/or methods of cultural reality to another.
